Top PS3 exclusives of 2011

Gaming – an obsessive hobby – has come a long way, hence, each year we see Console giants dish out games, and possible slurs for the fiery competition. PlayStation 3 (PS3) sadly lagged behind in sales, but now it seems to have jostled past others to claim the first spot in sales. It was not a surprise. Despite the back-cracking bumps on the road from the embarrassing hack of PSN, Sony’s PS3 was hurtled beyond the finish line by the pretty exclusives.
Here is the top 5 list of exclusives for ps3 :
1)Killzone 3
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Developer: Gorilla Games
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Clawing its way to 5th place is Guerilla Games flagship shooter, Killzone 3. Set amongst the shambles of war torn lands, dusty desolate settlements, and human carnage that echo the verisimilitude of real world wars, it turns the leaf of Killzone 2’s story. Picking up the role of Sev, the story ventures further in the struggle between the ISA and goggle-wearing red-eyed and downright evil Helghast; with their inhabitable home planet as the scene of battle.
Despite the pull back from intense and foul-language soaked story telling, Players will find themselves in a familiar struggle, made better with improvements in combat, gameplay, and tighter controls. The game plays in a generalized brutal fashion that will thrill many gamers. And the game does it shamelessly with exploding heads, painstakingly realistic deaths, and the general gore in abundance with stellar graphics… the kind we see in real brutalities of war.
PS3 gamers, along with the doze of pretty ghastly graphics galore, have a lot of back up for throwing spittle in console war debates; such as a better multiplayer option, and the inclusion of move and 3D support. While the move does not seem to function any better than the analog stick, the multiplayer offers plenty with the usual fun Death Matches, and the enticing objective-centric options. And if you happen to have a load of cash, buy yourself a 3D TV, and enjoying the buzzing of the jet-packs gliding across the poisonous sky. That folks’ is just the piece de resistance of this game.

4 – Resistance 3

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Developer: Insomniac Games
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Scrambling over Killzone 3, Insomniac’s Resistance 3 settles at 3rd place. Throwing all of those ‘aliens invading earth’ and the usual post-apocalyptic cliches forever rampant in shooters aside, Resistance in its third outing offers a gritty and real experience for shooter enthusiasts. Continuing the story four years forward in time, players take reins of Joseph Capelli, the last surviving sentinel of the post-war crumbling earth, and devastation wrought from Chimera invasion.
Impossibly enough, as earth’s last defense, Joseph battles through war-torn regions made seemingly likable with stunning graphics, which mark a stark difference between its previous outings. All this is made better with the return of much-loved weapon Wheel – a feature prominent in Insomniac’s shooter-cum-platformer Ratchet and Clank – and thus offers weapons upgrade through the easy but unusually fun trigger-happy instances.
Since Multiplayer is the undying in-fad these days, Resistance 3 leaves nothing out in terms of head-explosions, and the general vulgar killing fun. The co-cop online mode allows up to 16 players to create an artistic scene of carnage in Death Matches, Chain Reaction, Breach, and the ever popular but odd Capture the Flag. And just when you thought your wallet wasn’t abused enough, the game tempts you with 3D, and move support for those swinging-things-and-stuff-in-air lovers out there.

3 – Infamous 2

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Developer: Sucker Punch
Genre: Third-Person Action
There were times when super heroes wore those embarrassing tights that no man would dare get caught in, flashing their bulges, and even highlighting them with almost vulgar underwear’s on the outside. Fast-forward in the twenty First century, where ‘lame, and whatever’ are said aloud by the cool dudes, it was impossible to survive this century without its very own super hero. Squeezing in the middle and sandwiched, Infamous 2 wedges itself at third place. An so, enters Cole, the hip and cool looking super hero with a shining bald head – made popular with Bruce Willis and Vin Diesel – battling in The Empire City in this one of a kind sandbox game.
Following right after the event, where Cole gets his ass handed to him ungracefully in a silver platter by the Beast, he ventures off to New Marais in hopes of paying back the favour tooth for tooth by becoming more powerful. And unlike most run-of-the-mill games that hold a wild disregard for story-telling, Infamous 2 holds true to weaving a good super hero anecdote. The gameplay brings the same strengths, and that somewhat annoying shaky camera angles back from Infamous to Cole’s second quest for power. All your abilities from the first seem intact, and melee attacks are made more effective with amp.
The game offers a slew of fantastic main missions and side quests to eliminate small threats that progress the story along. It’s the decisions you make early on that influence later outcomes of your choices. This gives Infamous 2 wider and longer lasting appeal than most of its kind. Infamous 2 additionally offers User Generated Content (or UGC), which allows gamers with PlayStation Network access to create their own missions for online sharing. Sucker Punch have went forward a mile to make the city exploring that more enjoyable. There is so much to do, and so much to find that you just can’t get bored of this modern flashy tale, cool enough to impress the old-timers, and lovers of old-school super hero branded underwear alike.

2- LittleBigPlanet 2

Publisher: Sony Computer entertainment
Developer: Media Molecule
Genre: Platformer
Missing out the first spot, Media Molecule’s cute cuddly all-lovely 2nd installment to the craftiest platformer LittleBigPlanet, takes its rightful perch at second place. Filled with little sack boys we all want to cuddle and squeeze to death, LBP 2 trumps its successor in every way.  It weaves a story of an evil evil, downright horrible beast Negativitron, hell-bent on rending the adorable craftworld to dust, and glut on it along the way. So, as the lone-defender sack-clad, seamed Sackboy, you have to defend the world by slogging through 30 colorful levels to save your world.
The game plays like a 2D platformer, and you, the Sackboy can jump, fly, fire, invade icky infected bodies, ride a honey bee to shoot…well, honey, and even do the well-known swinging, which no plaformer is without. What makes the single player so much fun, is the buddy Sackboy additions. You can team up with three Sackpeople. They can join if you feel left out, lonely, or are a general ditz in platforming. This adds a lot of flavour to the single player mode, and adds that extra punch to the recipe.
But what makes LBP stand out among the platformers, and all games in general, is the ability to create levels through the infamous Create mode, which is a lot more user friendly than the original one. It’s painstakingly deep, and allows enough flexibility for the new users to delve into the experience and create master pieces to share with the world, or horrendous and down right ugly levels that only the player himself can enjoy. And if you are one of those picky, angst-stricken whiners, change the light catchy music to create your own tunes. The possibilities in LPB are endless, and with new Sackboys like Cloud and Sephiroth available for download, you can just make Versus matches, and bash the Silver-haired man face’s in, or wipe Cloud’s ass just for the heck of it. It is nothing but jolly good fun.

1 – Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Developer: Naughty Dog
Genre: Third-Person Action-Adventure
All gamers dream, but not equally. Some are lost in the tossing and turnings brought about by unwanted gasses from horrible consumption of McDonald’s fish burgers, other get wet dreams from pixel swells, and some have empty heads … But for all its worth, PS3 fans’ had their dreams united for Drake’s third, must awaited, much desired adventure, Drake’s Deception that blows a hell lot of sand on the competition, turns others to a maroon paste, and flops down at first place … which we knew to be Drake’s from the moment Naughty Dog (NG) announced Drake’s third foray.
Uncharted 3 (UC 3) brings the familiar cast together again for the third adventure, which has Drake working across the Arabian Peninsula; stop the bad guys and find the hidden city. But is it that straightforward and simple? Not quite. UC 3 delves beautifully into Sully and Drake’s relationship, which becomes the strength of this entire unpredictable adventure, that opens into more twists and turns you would least expect, marking this the best and most well-balanced UC outing yet. And this is marvelously complimented by the unmatched graphics that are as beautiful as the undulating mirage on scorching Arabian sands.
Every nook, every corner is so detailed that you would find yourself thinking; ‘is there any game that can surpass this’? Drake’s treads in the sand are washed away by wind, sand clings to his highly detailed face marked with furrows of age, and the blazing fire enflaming the burning buildings looks ghastly, but incredibly beautiful. The fantastic sounds add resonance to the stellar experience, and the real actors’ voices bring just enough of that verisimilitude needed to bring life to these otherwise illusionary characters, only breathing and dying beyond the screen.
The gameplay is tighter than Drake’s second outing, and everything flows along smoothly that it is hard to put any fault on NG. And UC does this, and more, by even surpassing UC2’s Multiplayer. While the standard menu makes a return, NG have added Boosters and Kickbacks to add more oomph to the diverse Multiplayer. Which does not only end here, but gives out upgradable bonuses for those die-hards that complained and complained during Beta try outs.
All this just seems to intermingle with the story so perfectly, that to call it simply an impeccable game would be the most foul understatement of the century…UC3 is a masterpiece in every right that makes you curl up your lips, and smile with joy, just like the time when you open a packet of Cheetos to find Tom and Jerry goodies inside. To miss on this, makes you a gamer with no taste, for this is a grand experience, incumbent upon all to savour.
